πŸš™Vehicle Policy

While on duty you will be provided with an EMS Vehicle that you must use when responding to any call.

To ensure the smooth operation of our emergency medical services, it is essential that all EMS personnel drive the appropriate vehicle while on duty. We have a strict policy in place regarding which vehicles are permitted for use in the city.

If you are seen driving an incorrect vehicle, you will be asked to return to the station and switch to the appropriate vehicle for your duties. This policy is in place to ensure that we are always ready to respond to emergencies and provide the highest level of care to our patients.

Please familiarize yourself with the vehicles that are approved for EMS use and ensure that you are driving the correct vehicle for your assigned duties. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy, please do not hesitate to reach out to a member of the High Command. Please note that it is a REQUIREMENT to have

Trainee, EMT and Paramedic

To ensure efficient response to emergency calls, it is mandatory for all Trainee, EMT and Paramedic to operate the Ford F150 Ambulance during their duty hours. This policy has been put in place to ensure that the department always has an ambulance readily available in case a Rapid Response Unit needs to transport a patient to Pillbox Medical Centre. Any deviation from this policy may lead to delays in response time, which can compromise patient care. Therefore, it is imperative that all personnel adhere to this policy to maintain the high standards of service we strive to deliver.

Med Evac

To ensure efficient response times for medical emergencies, we have a specialized Med Evac unit that is exclusively available to Paramedics and above. However, in order to operate this unit, you must hold a valid pilot license, authorized by an FAA Instructor. You will be responsible for piloting the HeliMed helicopter to respond to all Med Evac calls. We strictly adhere to all aviation rules and regulations, in addition to our own EMS policies. Please note that the Med Evac unit will only be activated if we have five or more EMS personnel on duty.

EMS Aviation rules and regulations

  • Only licensed pilots are permitted to fly the helicopter, unless accompanied by a licensed co-pilot. Unlicensed medics are not allowed to fly the aircraft under any circumstances.

  • The helicopter may only be landed anywhere in the city or up north in emergency situations. If the landing is not due to an emergency, a helipad must be used.

  • All active Med Evac Pilots must have a medic accompany them during flights.

  • Failure to comply with any of these rules and regulations may result in immediate suspension or termination of the pilot's license.
