Patient Confidentiality
At San Andreas Medical Service, we take patient confidentiality very seriously. It is the duty of every member of our team to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of our patients and their personal health information. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination from the department.
Our patient confidentiality policy includes the following guidelines:
Access to patient information is restricted to only those medical personnel who are directly involved in the care of the patient.
All patient information, including medical records and personal health information, is to be kept confidential and not shared with anyone who does not have a legitimate need to know.
All patient records must be stored securely, and any paper or electronic records must be password protected and kept in a locked area.
Any discussions regarding a patient's medical condition should only take place in private areas and with medical personnel directly involved in the care of the patient.
Patient information should not be discussed or shared with friends, family, or anyone else not involved in the patient's care, unless the patient has given explicit permission to do so.
When communicating with other medical professionals regarding a patient's care, only necessary information should be shared, and only through secure communication methods such as encrypted email or fax.
Any breaches of patient confidentiality must be reported immediately to the appropriate supervisor, and a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the breach and any necessary corrective action.
We expect all members of San Andreas Medical Service to uphold these guidelines and to treat patient confidentiality with the utmost respect and care.
